Legacy Elementary uses the McGraw-Hill Reading Program which is full of rich literature that addresses vocabulary, comprehension and reading fluency in various genres of fiction and non-fiction selections.

RTI

We take pride in giving research based and effective interventions for those students that are struggling in Reading. The intervention we offer for the students that do need the extra help is Response to Intervention (RTI). Research has shown that the RTI program has made as much as a 300% increase in reading ability of students. Here at Legacy (The 06-07 school year was the first year we used RTI.) we had kids make 100% and even up to 200% increase in their reading fluency. Studies have shown time after time that as a student’s reading fluency increases it in turn increases their reading comprehension.

Accelerated Reader

We also have the Accelerated Reader program which encourages students to read books that they have selected and allows them to take a computer based test to show comprehension. It is also a program that is research supported to improve reading ability and promote reading comprehension and a joy of reading.
