READING and MATH

Legacy Elementary uses the McGraw-Hill Reading Program which is full of rich literature that addresses vocabulary, comprehension and reading fluency in various genres of fiction and non-fiction selections. We also use the McGraw-Hill Math Program to not only meet all Arizona state standards but to help our students attain mastery.

RTI

We take pride in giving research based and effective interventions for those students that are struggling in Reading and Math. Students are tested 3 times per year in reading and math and then placed in a three tiered model for interventions, or RtI - Response to Intervention.  We have instructional aides that are trained in using various reading and math interventions for small groups.  At the same time, the teachers provide enrichment activities for those that are already at or above grade level.

We asses our students, Kindergarten through 8th grade, using DIBELS-Dynamic Indicator of Basic Early Learning Skills, a phonics screener to determine where a child's gap is in mastering phoncis skills, a probe that tests for reading fluency, and math assessments that give us data on where a child's strengths and weaknesses are in specific math concepts.
