The concept for Legacy School was created from the aspirations of a group of educators and parents. Their desire was to create a learning environment based on solid and proven curriculum that is integrated with music, the arts, and drama. Believing that children will learn when they are motivated, the group also believes that children maintain interest in learning when it is an enjoyable experience.
Legacy School is administered and managed by business and education professionals with many years of experience. An on-site management led by Ron Alexander, Principal, ensures that your child will be educated in a safe and positive environment.
We believe a child is the most important resource on earth. We further believe each child has a mission to share with humanity and needs a wide and varied knowledge base to fulfill that mission. Therefore, we at Legacy, aspire to challenge students to greatness. We dedicate ourselves to strong academics, leadership training and an enriching arts program in a safe and structured environment. With this base for success, students will learn to love life, liberty, leadership, and learning.
Legacy takes pride in providing research based and effective interventions for those students that are struggling in reading and math. Students are tested three times per year in reading and math and then placed in a three-tiered model for interventions, or RtI - Response to Intervention. We have instructional aids that are trained in using various reading and math interventions for small groups. At the same time, the teachers provide enrichment activities for those that are already at or above grade level.
We assess our students, Kindergarten through 8th grade, using DIBELS - Dynamic Indicator of Basic Learning Skills - and AIMSweb, a phonics screener to determine where a child's gap is in mastering phonics skills, a probe that tests for reading fluency, and math assessments that give us data on where a child's strengths and weaknesses are in specific math concepts.
At Legacy your child will be offered a very special curriculum called Core Knowledge. It is based on some of the ideas presented by E.D. Hirsch, Jr. in his books, Cultural Literacy: What Every American Needs to Know and The Schools We Need and Why We Don't Have Them , and futher developed by the foundation he established in 1986.
In each grade students will be exposed to a broad range of historical, scientific, and cultural topics that build on one another to prepare them for later educational successes. This wide array of subject matter will develop cultural literacy and build a strong vocabulary necessary for true reading comprehension.
Core Knowledge tries to develope cultural literacy in a way that is systematic but leaves room for creativity for both teacher and student. This curriculum eliminates the gaps and repetition that characterize a curriculum in which text-books and programs are selected more or less at random.

Hello, my name is Ronald L Alexander and I am the principal of Legacy Elementary. I became familiar with Legacy School while applying for other another administrative position within the district and although I was not awarded that position, I am honored that the Legacy School considered me for their administrator. While searching for leadership in an administrative capacity, I was impressed with how Legacy uses McGraw Hill Curriculum and Core Knowledge Instruction to educate the students. I also liked how Legacy School provides an Arts program which allows students to demonstrate their creativity in multiple ways.
By way of Cleveland, Ohio, I relocated with my family to Arizona in June of 2007. My son is now a fourth grader and my daughter is a second grader. We enjoy spending time together as a family, taking family vacations, bowling, and swimming. My wife, who is also a principal, and I believe strongly in a good education and we both believe that education is the key to having a successful life.
My first year here, I worked as a seventh grade science teacher while attending Northern Arizona University for my Administrative Degree. The following school year, I received a job as an Arizona Turnaround Coach appointed by The Department of Education. As a coach, I worked with teachers and Administration in developing and implementing programs to increase student achievement.
As an Administrator I plan to support Legacy teachers in providing quality service to meet the needs of all students. Along with curriculum based Instruction, our Intervention programs ensure that students master standards being taught. By providing a safe learning environment students are able to focus on learning in order to increase their performance.
